What We Are About The Eggertsville Community Organization was founded in November of 1998 by several Eggertsville residents, who felt there were issues affecting the quality of life in their neighborhood that could best be addressed through group action. Committees were established to deal with specific concerns (Code Enforcement, Parks & Recreation, etc.) and committee heads were selected from ECO's founding members. These committee heads formed the Steering Committee, which managed ECO's business during its first year.
ECO was the recipient of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce 2000 Alpha Commitment to Excellence Award for Community Revitalization. ECO is the first Community Organization, ever, to receive this award! ECO convinced the Town Board of the need to update the Amherst Town Building Code Ordinance. We participated in the revision and rewriting of the new building codes. We continue to work with the Town on enforcement of the new ordinances. Demolition of a hazardous abandoned building on Eggert Road was a direct result of ECO's involvement with the Town government. ECO held a successful Election Day Bake Sale to raise funds for the Eggertsville Fire Company and the Eggertsville Explorers Scout troop. ECO sponsored two Candidates Night Forums for the 1999 election, where the candidates could give their visions for Eggertsville and the entire town. Town officials working with ECO established the need for a multi-purpose community center by completing a community survey. Guest Speakers Our monthly meetings include guest speakers on topics that concern Eggertsville, the Town, and quality of life issues that concern our community. Speakers have ranged from state and local politicians to town department heads. Representatives from the private sector and Not for Profit agencies have also participated at our meetings.
ECO does not have a dues policy at this time. The only source of income is donations accepted from people attending the monthly general meetings. Presently our membership is over 270 members and continuously growing to affect positive change in Eggertsville. Anyone interested in becoming a member and being on our mailing list is welcome to attend one of our meetings or you may fill out the printable form and mail it to:
